Putnam County YMCA Breaks Ground on Phase II Natatorium

The Putnam County YMCA celebrated the groundbreaking of Phase II – the Natatorium addition in Greencastle, Indiana, marking an important step forward in the facility’s long-term growth. Designed to meet current community needs while planning for the future, Phase II will add more than 13,000 square feet and includes a new natatorium and locker rooms.

Recently awarded Lilly Endowment distributions helped accelerate the design process, allowing Phase II to move forward. Construction is now underway with an anticipated completion of July 2027. The broader master plan also includes future additions such as a fieldhouse, childcare center, and advanced career academy.

The ceremony brought together project partners including Ryan Penrod, CEO of the Wabash Valley YMCA; Andrea Young, Vice President of Finance and Administration at DePauw University; and Mayor Lynda Dunbar of the City of Greencastle, highlighting the strong collaboration behind the project.

Elevatus Architecture is serving as architect for the project, with Hannig Construction as Construction Manager.

“This groundbreaking, this natatorium addition represents more than just bricks and water. It represents safety, health, connection, and a stronger future for our community. The YMCA is a place where children learn confidence, where families grow stronger together, and where individuals of all ages pursue healthier lives.”
