The understanding of one’s community and the power that individuals possess is what motivated Tom Kelley (son of the late Jim Kelley) to bring this vision to reality for the youth of Fort Wayne. His father’s commitment to the youth was recognized publicly, with trips to sporting events, much needed pep talks and just being a good human being. As Tom wanted to do more to honor his father and family’s name the center will continue to improve the education and experience for young adults to take a project based learning path and excel in their own communities.
The Jim Kelley Career Pathway Center will be a useful and innovative center to help students gain knowledge through hands-on experiences in an environment that emphasizes communication and collaboration. Learning labs will occupy the facility with equipment that provides students with unique skills training.
The center will instruct courses involving skilled trades. These skilled trades resonate with employers in the region therefore providing a localized feel to trainings and increase local talent retention. These areas will include automotive, construction trades, information technology, manufacturing, welding, and supply chain.
This project is powered through a collaborative effort involving Fort Wayne Community Schools and the Boys & Girls Club of Fort Wayne. A partnership as such will allow for students from Fort Wayne Community Schools to experience the curricula provided by the center. After school, Club members will use the facility.
The lasting impact that this Center will have on the youth will be indescribable. Students will be equipped with skills that are necessary for career development and preparedness in their own futures.
