Flathead County Public Safety Facility

Kalispell, MT

  • Justice
  • Jails and Prisons

Flathead County knew it had outgrown its existing jail and Sheriff’s department. The facility was aging, deteriorating, and no longer met the needs of a growing community. Space was tight, systems were outdated, and operational inefficiencies made it difficult to recruit and retain staff.

Renowned for its expertise in designing public safety and detention facilities that are both functional and forward-thinking, Elevatus was brought in to help the County envision a long-term solution.

The team planned a modern, 118,000-square-foot facility designed to serve Flathead County for decades to come. It will feature administrative space for the Sheriff’s department, evidence storage and processing areas, a courtroom, around 200 general housing beds, and a special housing unit with more than 30 beds. The master plan also allows for future expansion, supporting growth as community needs evolve.

Elevatus approached the project with deep respect for the County’s operational realities. Through a series of working sessions with stakeholders and end users, the team tailored the facility’s layout to support day-to-day workflows. One example is the integration of dayroom showers directly into the housing units—a subtle shift with meaningful gains in supervision and movement efficiency.

Though the project is still in design, it has already become a catalyst for forward momentum. Flathead County residents approved a public safety facility bond to build the new facility, paving the way for a safer, smarter, and more resilient future.

Elevatus stays involved throughout the entire construction process. This high level of service is very important to us because things inevitably shift and change despite the best planning. We need them to stay involved so that our budget is not affected. In the end, our projects are delivered on time and on budget and Elevatus contributes to that "now expected" outcome.

Judy Roy

Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration, Indiana Tech

Elevatus did an excellent job helping us navigate our project in Huntington, IN and developed architectural plans very timely and with an appreciated attention to every detail. We highly recommend this firm.

Justin Claud, Esq.

When our County was looking for an architecture firm to help us with the process of building a new jail, Elevatus was an easy choice for me. This was a project entirely out of my skill set, but I knew we only had one chance to get it right. Their (Elevatus) knowledge and professionalism is unmatched.

Commissioner Theresa Baysinger

Whitley County Commissioner

Elevatus provided exceptional leadership that was always available, always helpful, and with a client's architect frame of mind. All deliverables were delivered on time. In several cases, Elevatus provided deliverables in advance of deadlines and offered alternatives that saved the company additional money.

Scott Fergusson

We have had nothing short of an amazing experience with Elevatus. Their team jumped right in and began planning with us right away, leaving no stone unturned from concept through our current state of approaching SD.
