Elevating Mental Health Awareness: What We Can All Do to Make a Difference

May is Mental Health Awareness Month.
Mental health is health.
It shapes how we think, feel, connect, and live — and it’s deeply connected to our physical and spiritual well-being. As we care for others, we must remember to care for ourselves too.
Design has the power to influence well-being. Whether in education, justice, healthcare, or hospitality, the spaces we create can foster safety, comfort, and connection.
Justice spaces require compassion and purpose. By applying trauma-informed design, we prioritize dignity, calm, and rehabilitation. Natural light, soft palettes, and decentralized layouts all contribute to healthier outcomes, even in secure environments.
Modern education environments must support both learning and emotional well-being. Flexible spaces, daylight, and inclusive design help reduce stress and support students, staff, and families navigating today’s evolving learning landscapes.
Healing spaces go beyond treatment — they nurture the whole person. Through natural materials, warm lighting, and intuitive navigation, we create environments that feel safe, supportive, and restorative for both patients and providers.
Busy public spaces can either overwhelm or uplift. We design with natural light, soft finishes, and clear wayfinding to support ease and comfort. These environment should be warm and inviting. They should welcome, ease, and shape a positive experience for every guest, customer, and team member who walks through them.
