Construction Underway on Flathead County’s New Public Safety Facility
Construction is underway on the new Flathead County Public Safety Facility, a project designed to support the County’s growing public safety needs for decades to come.
After months of planning and collaboration, the Elevatus Justice Team joined county officials and project partners in June to celebrate the groundbreaking and officially kick off construction.
Located in Kalispell, Montana, the 118,000-square-foot facility will replace an aging jail and Sheriff’s Department that no longer meet the operational, safety, and capacity needs of one of Montana’s fastest-growing counties. The new facility is designed to improve day-to-day operations, enhance safety, and create a better environment for both staff and those in custody.

The facility will include:
- Sheriff’s Department administrative offices
- Evidence storage and processing areas
- A courtroom
- Approximately 200 general housing beds
- 18 dormitory beds
- A 40-bed special housing unit
- Space for future expansion
The design was shaped through close collaboration with county leaders, Sheriff’s Office personnel, and staff to create a facility that works better for the people who use it every day. Features like in-unit showers reduce movement throughout the housing areas, improving both security and staff efficiency while supporting safer daily operations.
The Flathead County Public Safety Facility is designed with flexibility for future growth, ensuring the County can continue serving its residents with a modern, secure, and resilient facility for years to come.
