For decades, J.E. Ober Elementary stood as a cornerstone of the Garrett-Keyser-Butler school community. Generations passed through its halls, but by 2024, the building’s age was showing. Outdated infrastructure, functional inefficiencies, and ADA compliance issues made it clear: the time had come to reimagine the future of learning for the district’s youngest students.
That summer, the district took action. Determined to provide a modern, inclusive environment, leaders partnered with Elevatus to explore all possibilities. Tasked with evaluating renovation versus new construction, our team conducted extensive studies to help the district make an informed, future-focused decision. The results pointed to new construction as the best long-term investment—one that would offer greater flexibility, efficiency, and value.
The new elementary will be built as an addition to the existing campus, maintaining the unique connection between the elementary, middle, and high schools. It will feature six classrooms per grade level, an expanded cafeteria with a new kitchen, a private outdoor playground, and abundant natural light throughout every learning space.
Planned to accommodate up to 900 students by 2032, the building is designed to grow with the community. What makes this project truly special is the involvement of current students, whose ideas and input are shaping the school’s design and purpose.
This project represents more than just new construction. It is a reflection of a community that believes in its children, invests in its future, and understands the lasting impact of a space designed to support learning, connection, and growth.
