Fulton County Sheriff’s Office and Detention Center

Rochester, Indiana

  • Justice
  • Jails and Prisons

Understanding the need for a new jail facility is no small undertaking. The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office and Fulton County Commissioners recognized that the facility built in 1985 was quickly deteriorating. It was not meeting the necessary codes to meet current ACA and Indiana jail standards, nor was it properly housing all of Fulton County’s inmates.

Through the formation of a Jail committee by Fulton County officials, the Elevatus team was engaged to help design a solution for the lack of space. The Fulton County Sheriff’s Department toured many facilities in Indiana and kept coming back to one of our recently completed projects, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office and Detention Center. During the County Commissioner’s (the county authority responsible for providing a county jail) visit, if we could design a similar facility to meet the needs of Fulton County, this building would meet and exceed all their requirements and desires. Working with a few design modification meetings, the 49,910 SF facility has a 230-bed count. The facility contains a 230-bed count with 198 beds in its housing pod, 12 beds for inmate workers, and intake & holding containing 20 beds.

It continues to host several needs like:

  • Full-Service Kitchen and Laundry
  • CSI Lab
  • Detectives Offices
  • Squad Room
  • 911 Dispatch
  • Multi-purpose Room

In addition to all spaces typically hosted inside jail facilities, the county elected to add a forensic center and morgue connected to the new jail. This 2,000 SF space incorporates a garage/dock, conference space, cooler, and procedure room. It also includes a private entrance for the next of kin to identify or release the deceased.

This amazing @electricworksfw campus holds so much of Fort Wayne’s story. Up close, the brick, concrete columns, beams, and textures carry the energy of everything that came before. If these walls could talk, they would remind us why preserving what matters is worth it.

Elevatus stays involved throughout the entire construction process. This high level of service is very important to us because things inevitably shift and change despite the best planning. We need them to stay involved so that our budget is not affected. In the end, our projects are delivered on time and on budget and Elevatus contributes to that "now expected" outcome.

Judy Roy

Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration, Indiana Tech

Elevatus did an excellent job helping us navigate our project in Huntington, IN and developed architectural plans very timely and with an appreciated attention to every detail. We highly recommend this firm.

Justin Claud, Esq.

Chief Legal Officer, Boca Recovery Center

When our County was looking for an architecture firm to help us with the process of building a new jail, Elevatus was an easy choice for me. This was a project entirely out of my skill set, but I knew we only had one chance to get it right. Their (Elevatus) knowledge and professionalism is unmatched.

Commissioner Theresa Baysinger

Whitley County Commissioner

Elevatus provided exceptional leadership that was always available, always helpful, and with a client's architect frame of mind. All deliverables were delivered on time. In several cases, Elevatus provided deliverables in advance of deadlines and offered alternatives that saved the company additional money.

Scott Fergusson

Founder, Chapman's Brewing Company

We have had nothing short of an amazing experience with Elevatus. Their team jumped right in and began planning with us right away, leaving no stone unturned from concept through our current state of approaching SD. Elevatus runs effective, informative and efficient meetings and always follows through with answers to questions that come up during the meeting.
