Cass County faced a growing challenge with an overcrowded jail that strained resources and limited care for inmates. County leaders knew they needed a solution that addressed immediate concerns while planning for the future.
The county turned to Elevatus to create a plan that balanced security, rehabilitation, and community responsibility.
The design team delivered a transformative expansion and renovation that redefines what a correctional facility can be. At the heart of the project is a new housing block with 150 additional beds, a modern vehicular sallyport, and expanded intake and booking areas designed for efficiency and safety. Above it, a second-floor shell space anticipates future growth with room for another 150 beds and program support spaces. Inside the existing jail, the former intake area now serves as a mental health housing dayroom, complemented by an indoor and outdoor recreation space that promotes wellness and rehabilitation. Even the basics were upgraded with new laundry equipment and expanded service areas to meet increased demand.
The new and improved Cass County Sheriff’s Office and Detention Center delivers peace of mind to the community. It alleviates overcrowding, enhances security, and introduces spaces dedicated to mental health and rehabilitation, helping inmates return to society stronger and healthier. For Cass County, this expansion represents a commitment to progress, safety, and compassion.
