As one of Indiana’s many overcrowded jail facilities, Cass County Commissioners set out to get ahead of the problem and address their needs through an expansion and renovation project. Elevatus identified the county’s needs and designed an addition that addressed not only overcrowding but also mental health and rehabilitation of inmates.
The completed project features a new housing block with an additional 150 beds, a new vehicular sallyport, and updated intake and booking areas. A second-floor shell space was also constructed to support an additional 150 beds in the future and includes program support spaces. The renovated existing jail converts the former intake and booking areas into a mental health housing dayroom, while part of the former sallyport was transformed into an indoor/outdoor recreation space.
