Adams Central Community Schools’ natatorium was aging and no longer aligned with the district’s expectations for quality and performance. To enhance the experience of its student-athletes, the district initiated a renovation of the natatorium and adjacent locker rooms, identifying upgrades to improve air quality, update finishes, and introduce modern technology—all while honoring the history and importance of the space.
To bring this vision to life, the district partnered with Elevatus, selected for its thoughtful design approach and dedication to collaborative partnerships.
Working closely with the school’s athletic director and swim coach, the Elevatus design team listened to the needs of those who use the facility most. The result is a fully refreshed natatorium featuring upgraded lighting, a new dehumidification and HVAC system, a modern competition timing system, and a reliable chemical treatment system that ensures water quality. In the locker rooms, the renovation introduced new lockers, durable flooring, updated plumbing fixtures, and finishes that connect seamlessly with the pool space to create a unified experience.
During construction, the team faced an unexpected challenge when the existing wall paint system in the natatorium began to fail. Originally planned to be painted over, the walls instead had to be stripped entirely to ensure proper adhesion for the new finish. Elevatus collaborated with the construction team and the painting contractor to find the most efficient and cost-effective solution, minimizing impact while maintaining quality.
The new Adams Central natatorium promises a welcoming, functional environment for training and competition, a reliable setting for hosting meets, and a renewed sense of pride for the community.
