Milford Elementary School

Milford, Indiana

  • Education
  • K–12

Over the years, the Wawasee Community School Corporation’s oldest school building, constructed in 1958, had undergone superficial upgrades — new paint, carpet, lockers, and ceiling tiles—to prolong its functionality. However, Milford Elementary’s underlying systems and mechanical infrastructure remained outdated, with some components dating back to the original construction. These aging systems made renovation of the school building increasingly impractical, and a recent study confirmed that renovating the building would be as costly, if not more so, than constructing a new facility.

Recognizing the need for a modern, efficient, and long-lasting solution, the district entrusted Elevatus with designing a new Milford Elementary School. The design process presented several challenges, particularly in identifying the optimal site placement for the new structure. Our team developed three distinct layout options, each accompanied by detailed visual renderings, to align with the district’s vision while optimizing space, operational flow, budget, and timelines.

Through a comprehensive comparative analysis, we provided the district with clear insights into the practical implications of each design option. This facilitated an informed decision-making process, ensuring that the final site selection would best serve the school’s long-term goals and the community’s needs.

The final design realized a school building with three classrooms at each grade level, K-5, plus two early learning classrooms. The building is designed for a seamless future expansion if required. The design reflects the community’s desire for a school that is not only functional but also inviting, inspirational, and an educational pillar for future generations.

The new Milford Elementary School is set to be completed in time for the start of the 2026 academic year, offering a modern and adaptable environment that will serve the district and its students for decades to come.

Wellness doesn’t always mean big changes. Sometimes it’s small shifts that make the biggest difference.

That’s something we’ve explored with Dr. Deanna Dwenger at Elevatus, especially when looking at the eight dimensions of wellness outlined by SAMHSA: emotional, environmental, financial, physical, occupational, social, spiritual, and intellectual.

The more we understand what helps us feel steady, the better we care for our mental health.

Good design should feel practical and intentional.

The Lawrence County Law Enforcement Center in Missouri reflects that approach. It includes secure housing, space for future expansion, and a Sheriff’s Office designed to meet operational needs.

When our County was looking for an architecture firm to help us with the process of building a new jail, Elevatus was an easy choice for me. This was a project entirely out of my skill set, but I knew we only had one chance to get it right. Their (Elevatus) knowledge and professionalism is unmatched.

Commissioner Theresa Baysinger

Whitley County Commissioner

Elevatus provided exceptional leadership that was always available, always helpful, and with a client's architect frame of mind. All deliverables were delivered on time. In several cases, Elevatus provided deliverables in advance of deadlines and offered alternatives that saved the company additional money.

Scott Fergusson

Founder, Chapman's Brewing Company

We have had nothing short of an amazing experience with Elevatus. Their team jumped right in and began planning with us right away, leaving no stone unturned from concept through our current state of approaching SD. Emily runs effective, informative and efficient meetings and always follows through with answers to questions that come up during the meeting.

Brandon Penrod, PhD

Chief Financial Officer, Wawasee Community Schools

Elevatus stays involved throughout the entire construction process. This high level of service is very important to us because things inevitably shift and change despite the best planning. We need them to stay involved so that our budget is not affected. In the end, our projects are delivered on time and on budget and Elevatus contributes to that "now expected" outcome.
