Founded in 1981, the prestigious law firm of Solomon Zauderer Ellenhorn Frischer & Sharp employs more than 30 of New York’s most accomplished litigators and advisors to Wall Street broker-dealers. With a focus on both commercial litigation and a financial services regulatory practice, the firm prides itself on experience, professionalism, and above all, committed partnerships with their clients.

At Solomon Zauderer, being totally committed to their clients’ needs is paramount. That level of commitment is also reflected in their approach to software management.

Working in a law firm, software license compliance is necessary—anything less is unacceptable,” explains Sarah Boyle, Information Systems Manager
at Solomon Zauderer Ellenhorn Frischer & Sharp.

Sarah remembers what it was like before she had a solid software asset management plan in place. “I used to go around to every PC and manually write down what software was installed on each machine.” She was intent on operating legally (the last thing a law firm wants is a law suit). But—as a department of one—she just didn’t have time to devise an automated system for managing software assets. To be safe, she bought more licenses than she needed.

All that changed when a Microsoft licensing team member recommended that she invest in a low-cost software management application. It’s made all the difference.

After installing this application, Sarah was able to easily track software and hardware information—serial numbers, makes and models, etc.—plus installation, maintenance, and lease details. In addition, she could quickly take inventory of what was loaded onto each workstation, and check for unlicensed software and unauthorized downloads.

With a solid software asset management program in place, Sarah has one less thing to worry about. “Before, I never had time to manage things correctly…it was always an emergency. Now it’s under control.” Knowing her firm is committed to excellence she notes, “It makes me feel confident about what we are doing and more secure in what our firm is running.”

Making software asset management a priority has streamlined Sarah’s workday. “It gives me peace of mind,” she says. “When it comes down to licensing and software management that’s all you really want.”
